Why it matters in Salt Lake City

And then there's the light. This valley gets over 220 sunny days a year plus hard winter glare off snow, so a cheap camera facing east or west is useless half the day. I set exposure and mounting angles for our actual sun, and the 4K sensors with real infrared night vision handle the long, dark stretches on unlit foothill streets and the alleys behind Ninth and Ninth. Porch pirates and catalytic-converter thieves don't care that Silicon Slopes made this a boom town, and with the number of new-construction homes going in every year, a lot of driveways out here have never had a single camera on them.

Can your cameras actually read a license plate or face at night on my dark street?
On a lot of the older Avenues and foothill streets there's barely a streetlight, so yes, this matters. My 4K cameras have real infrared, not just a night filter, and I mount them 8-10 feet up angled at the driveway or entry point rather than trying to watch the whole yard. For plates specifically I'll dedicate one camera to the driveway choke point, because a single wide camera trying to do everything reads nothing well.
Do I really pay nothing monthly? Where does the footage go?
Nothing monthly. Footage records to a local NVR I install in your house, usually in a closet or mechanical room. A typical 4-camera 4K setup holds about 2-3 weeks of continuous recording before it loops, and I can add a bigger drive if you want a month or more. You view it from a free app on your phone. No cloud subscription, no losing your cameras because you stopped paying.
How many cameras does a typical Salt Lake City house need, and how long does it take?
Most single-family homes here land at 4-6 cameras: front door, driveway, both side gates, and the back. Bigger Federal Heights or bench homes with more entry points sometimes run 8. A standard 4-camera install is usually one day; older Avenues homes with plaster walls and no attic access can push into a second day because I'm running exterior conduit carefully instead of blasting holes.
